We made a Riesling. Rizza is sexy again.
The story? (Because we never intended to make one… ever)
BUT… then we happened to be in Berlin with our German mate Fabian (from C+H Fine Wines) , tasting some of the finest rieslings on the planet, enjoying ourselves immensely when we decided to go to the most famous club in Berlin, The Berghain.
This club is notoriously difficult to get into, you line up for hours … and hours, and then when you get to the front of the line you either get the nod from Sven (the most famous nightclub bouncer in the world complete with face tattoos and a multitude of piercings) or you dont. And you’re left broken and dazed as to why.. whhhhhy.
Anyway, so Dylan and Fabian were denied and thus came up with the idea to make a German inspired Margaret River rielsing and call it Die Berghain. The fruit was sourced from the loudest Wilyabrup vineyard you’ve never heard of Maximaler Räve. Basket pressed and wild fermented on lees in barrel. It’s Jasmin, orange oil and musk with lashings of lime rind and a lick of residual sugar. All perfectly balanced.
(Die means THE in German)
So we’ll be pouring the first tastes of Die Berghain this Saturday along with rieslings from Vanguardist (South Aus) and carefully selected German imports from C+H Fine Wines.
